The Racine Symphony Orchestra Summer Pops
- Friday, June 29
- Festival Hall
The Racine Symphony Orchestra kicks-off its 81st Season with the first of two Summer Pops Concerts held at Racine’s Festival Hall. Pasquale Laurino, Music Director for the RSO, will conduct the first Summer Pops concert on Friday, June 29 at 7:00 p.m.
Laurino promises something for everyone this season, built on audience favorites, “Musically, we’ve focused on listening to the tastes of our audience and look forward to giving them a season filled with their favorites.” Executive Director Bonnie Prochaska agrees, “I’ve enjoyed the process of soliciting ideas and ‘requests’ from the audience and having Pasquale and the music committee pull it together into a very entertaining season of music.”
The 2012-13 season begins with the Summer Pops Concerts returning for its 25th season of music on summer nights at Festival Hall. The June concert is a “Tribute to the Silver Screen” featuring crowd favorites like John Williams’ Star Wars and James Horner’s Titanic. Horner’s Titanic remains the best selling orchestral soundtrack of all time, according to USA Today.
Two other favorite Racine music organizations will be on hand to help the RSO celebrate the Summer Pops Concert series’ 25th Anniversary: The Lighthouse Brigade Junior Band will open the concert with the Star Spangled Banner, and later in the program, the Belle City Brassworks Brass Band, also celebrating a 25 anniversary, joins the fun with music by Sousa, Strauss and Ravel.
In addition to the entertaining concert season, the RSO is busy with events that bring extracurricular music to our schools. They also sponsor the October Artist in Residence program and present concerts to area 5th graders in March. The Racine Symphony is proud to participate in Giving Back! Unopened over-the-counter cold medicines are collected and donated to the Racine Health Care Network in June, and in December, Orchestras Feeding America National Food Drive provides opportunity to collect canned goods and non-perishables which support the Racine County Food Bank. The RSO is supported in part by Johnson Bank, Educators Credit Union, Wisconsin Arts Board, Racine United Arts Fund, United Performing Arts Fund, Twin Disc, and RS InfoCon.
