Kiwanis Club’s annual Pancake Day set May 5
RACINE — The Kiwanis Club of Greater Racine will hold the 58th annual Pancake Day from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 5 at Festival Hall, 5 Fifth St.
This event has become a Racine tradition with annual attendance of up to 8,000 and, for many in the community, marks the official start of spring.
More importantly, this is a fundraising event with proceeds going back into the Racine community. Over the years, the Kiwanis Club has been able to help the Childhood Development Center, Habitat for Humanity, Cops n Kids Reading Program, HALO and numerous other projects including the Kiwanis Youth Orchestra, Racine Kids Summer Players, Big Brother/ Big Sisters, scouting and playground equipment. Kiwanis also awards scholarships to graduating seniors from public and private schools who have demonstrated leadership in volunteering efforts.
Pancake Day is also a great showcase for Racine-area talent. This year’s entertainment lineup includes: Linda Kelly, 6-7 a.m.; Belle City Brassworks, 7-8 a.m.; McKinley Red Jazz Band, 8-9 a.m.; Miss Racine Organization, 9-10 a.m.; The Voice of Elvis John Van Thiel, 10-11 a.m.; Gary T. Ricchio Project, 11 a.m.-noon; Wild Thyme, noon-1 p.m.; Kiwanis Youth Symphony Orchestra, 1-2 p.m.; Mike “Elvis” Bishop, 2-3 p.m.; and Mike DeRose (smooth jazz guitar), 3-4 p.m.
